It is a steric form of ascorbic and palmitic acid, which produces a form of vitamin C that reaches areas that ascorbic acid cannot. This form has been shown to protect lipids from peroxidation. Lipophilic AP is able to cross biological barriers and satisfy the demand for ascorbate more easily than the hydrophilic form. AP should be considered the priority form of ascorbate transport to neurological tissues. Technically, the ascorbic acid part of ascorbyl palmitate represents only 40% of the total weight. It is recommended to take 1 capsule a day with food, or follow medical prescription. Food supplements should not be used as a substitute for a balanced and varied diet and a healthy lifestyle.
