Bruce Fleming won an O. Henry Award for his first published story The Autobiography of Gertrude Stein (1989) which The Washington Post called a tour de force. In 2005 he was awarded the Antioch Review Award for Distinguished Prose a career award. His experimental novel Twilley (1997) was compared by critics to works by Henry James T. S. Eliot Proust Thoreau and David Lynch. He has published a collection of dance essays Sex Art and Audience (2000) many scholarly and theoretical books and articles and essays in literary quarterlies and publications such as the Village Voice The Washington Post and The Nation. His most recent books include Annapolis Autumn: Life Death and Literature at the U. S. Naval Academy (2005) Why Liberals and Conservatives Clash (2006) and The New Tractatus (2007). He has been an English professor at the U. S. Naval Academy Annapolis for more than two decades and lives outside of Annapolis with his wife and children. Language: English
